Design and Synthesis of Novel Bionanomaterials

The fabrication of conductive and semiconductive nanowires is a challenging goal for the future engineering of nanoscale electronic systems and sensing. One of the attractive ideas is to use self-assembling biomolecules as a template for the fabrication of nanoparticle arrays and nanowires. Actin can form filaments of up to 20 μm with 10 nm diameter, which could be used as a template for the assembly of nanoparticles. By conjugating semiconductor nanocrystals, quantum dots, to F-actin, we made luminescent semiconductor nanowires.
